Lagos Shuts Jetties, Terminals on Five Cowries Creek for E1 Championship

The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of all private and commercial jetties and terminals along the Five Cowries Creek to facilitate the successful hosting of the E1 Championship, the world’s first all-electric powerboat race, scheduled for October 3–5, 2025.

In a statement on Monday, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) said the move is aimed at ensuring safety, security, and seamless operations during the international sporting event, which positions Lagos as a rising hub for global water sports.

According to the closure schedule ;Thursday, October 2: Partial closure from Falomo Bridge to Oriental Hotel, 10am–6pm. Friday, October 3: Total closure from Oriental Hotel to Mekwen Bridge, 10am–6pm.

Saturday, October 4 & Sunday, October 5: Total closure from Falomo Bridge to Oriental Hotel, 8am–6pm daily.
Normal ferry services and terminal activities are expected to resume on Monday, October 6, 2025.

LASWA urged ferry operators, commuters, and other waterway users to explore alternative routes and plan their movements in advance.

“This closure is a vital step to safeguard lives and project Lagos as a world-class destination for international sports,” the authority stated.
