2027: Kwankwaso Sets Conditions for Possible Return to APC

Former Kano State governor and national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that any potential return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) would only be possible under clearly defined conditions that safeguard the interests of his Kwankwasiyya Movement and the NNPP.

Kwankwaso made the remarks while receiving a delegation of APC members from all 44 local government areas of Kano State, led by Buhari Bakwana, a former political adviser to ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, at his Miller Road residence in Kano.
Recalling his pivotal role in the formation of the APC in 2013, Kwankwaso said he and other political allies bore the brunt of persecution from security agencies in the course of building the party.

“ICPC, EFCC, and the police were all used against me just to stop our plans. Nobody can tell me what we went through to create APC,” he stated.
The former defence minister insisted that any discussion of a merger or defection must come with tangible benefits for the NNPP, which he noted has gubernatorial candidates across the country and functional political structures in all states.

“If you are asking us to join APC, you must tell us what NNPP will gain. We will not allow anyone to use us and later dump us,” he said.
Kwankwaso also expressed dissatisfaction with his past experiences in both the APC and the PDP, accusing both parties of reneging on agreements.
“Eight years of APC under former President Muhammadu Buhari gave us nothing, not even appreciation. In PDP, we asked for just a zonal chairman, but they refused. We left peacefully, and today we are stronger and have integrity,” he added.

He, however, maintained that the NNPP remained open to fresh negotiations, provided that the terms were clear and binding.
“We are ready to join APC under strong conditions and promises. But this time, we will not be taken for granted,” Kwankwaso declared.
