The Speaker of the 8th Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, has announced that the Assembly has passed 20 bills into law out of 51 introduced within the last two years, a feat he described as “an unprecedented achievement” in the legislative history of the state.
Wesley made this known on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel in Yola. He highlighted several key legislations enacted under his leadership, including the Adamawa State Appropriation Law 2024, the Information Technology Development Agency Law 2024, the Teachers Service Commission Law, and the Health Supplies Management Agency Law.
Other notable laws passed include the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology Ganye Law, the District Creation Law, the Water Supply and Sanitation Services Law, and the College of Nursing Sciences (Repeal and Re-enactment) Law 2024.
The Speaker also revealed that the Assembly had adopted numerous motions and resolutions geared toward strengthening governance in the state.
These include a vote of confidence in Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, a resolution for a legislative retreat, and a call for the recruitment of more qualified teachers to improve public education.
Wesley commended the press for its professionalism and timely coverage, particularly during recent flooding incidents, stating that the media remains an indispensable partner in advancing democratic governance.
Earlier in her remarks, the Vice Chairperson of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel, Mrs. Golfa Francis, lauded the Speaker’s leadership and his commitment to grassroots development. She emphasized that the robust partnership between the Assembly and the media has significantly contributed to enhanced governance and transparency in the state.
