A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has discharged and acquitted former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, of all money laundering charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Delivering the ruling on Wednesday, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke upheld Fayose’s no-case submission, stating that the EFCC failed to establish a prima facie case sufficient to require the defendant to enter a defence.
Fayose had been standing trial for alleged money laundering and fraud linked to his time in office as governor of Ekiti State. The charges, which had lingered for several years, formed part of the EFCC’s broader crackdown on financial crimes by public officials.
The court’s decision marks a significant legal victory for Fayose, effectively bringing an end to a high-profile case that has drawn national attention.
