The Western Marine Command (WMC) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has honoured outstanding officers for their dedication, professionalism and meritorious service, while highlighting the Command’s achievements in combating smuggling along Nigeria’s waterways.
The officers were recognised on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during the Comptroller’s Award Night held at the Command’s headquarters in Ibafon, Lagos.
Speaking at the event, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, said the Command had recorded significant operational successes through seizures and collaboration with other government agencies. He described the Command as a strong deterrent to smugglers operating on the nation’s waterways.
“During our operations, we have handled several cases and made seizures of different items. We have also worked closely with other government agencies,” Ntadi said, stressing that the Command’s primary responsibility was to disrupt smuggling activities.
The CAC attributed the Command’s achievements to the dedication and professionalism of its officers, noting that effective leadership was primarily about providing the motivation and direction needed to unlock their potential.
Ntadi also acknowledged the support of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, particularly in the implementation of initiatives at the Command. He urged officers to remain committed to protecting the nation’s interests and contributing to the continued development, efficiency and effectiveness of the Western Marine Command.
Among the officers honoured were Superintendent of Customs Moris Okaru, Best Team Lead; Superintendent of Customs Gideon Okere, Overall Best Team Player; and Superintendent of Customs Salisu Dauda, Best in Enforcement, alongside other award recipients.
