BOAN, Port of Antwerp Strike Strategic Deal to Drive Nigeria’s Barge Operations

…Partnership targets efficient inland cargo movement, reduced port congestion and stronger maritime connectivity…

The Barge Operators Association of Nigeria (BOAN) and the Port of Antwerp have forged a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the development and expansion of barge operations in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
The collaboration is expected to promote more efficient movement of cargo through Nigeria’s inland waterways, ease pressure on road infrastructure and contribute to reducing congestion around the nation’s seaports.
The partnership also underscores growing efforts to strengthen multimodal transport and improve the efficiency of Nigeria’s port logistics chain by expanding the use of barges as an alternative means of cargo evacuation.
Industry stakeholders believe stronger collaboration between Nigerian barge operators and international port partners could enhance operational standards, attract investment and unlock greater opportunities within the country’s inland waterway transportation system.

The initiative further aligns with broader efforts to position Nigeria’s maritime sector for sustainable growth, improved trade facilitation and enhanced connectivity with international shipping and logistics networks.
