Bandits abduct seven teenagers in Abuja

A 16-year-old boy and six girls have been abducted from Gidan-Bijimi in Kawu ward of Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to Daily Trust, a resident of Kawu, Suleiman Shuaibu, confirmed the incident on Thursday morning.
He said the bandits, armed with AK-47 rifles, raided two houses in the community around 9:47 pm, whisking away six young girls and the 16-year-old boy amid sporadic gunfire.

Residents of the area were thrown into panic, he added.
“Some vigilantes in the community tried to engage the bandits but were forced to run for cover due to their superior firepower,” Shuaibu said.

He noted that the abducted girls were between 17 and 23 years old.

It was around 9:53 pm when a call came from Gidan-Bijimi community that some bandits invaded the village and abducted six young girls. Unfortunately, my cousin sister happened to be among the victims,” he said.
Shuaibu added that some residents fled their homes following the attack, and contact has yet to be established with the abductors.

The Gidan-Bijimi community shares a boundary with neighboring Marke village near the Kaduna state border. The Abuja Police Command has not yet responded to the development.
In a similar incident, no fewer than 20 farmers, including four pregnant women and children, were kidnapped by bandits in Niger State.
The victims were taken from their farm around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, while harvesting rice at Unguwan-Kawo, Erena Ward of Shiroro Local Government Area.
One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said his nephew was among those kidnapped and noted that the farm is just 500 metres from a military camp in Erena town.
