A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday sentenced a 35-year-old woman, Vivian George, to one month community service for stealing three pairs of shoes .
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced George following her guilty plea.
Emmanuel ordered that the community service should be supervised by the Nigeria Correctional Centre officer in Kaduna.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the convict committed the offence on July 27 at Ungwan Gimbiya Kaduna.
Leo said that the defendant went to the complainant, Lydia Sunday’s shop under the pretence of buying some ladies shoes and stole three pairs of shoes worth N250,000.
He added that the convict was caught by the secretary who saw her in the act on the CCTV and the stolen items were recovered from her.
According to him, the offence contravened the provisions of Section 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State 2017.
The convict had pleaded guilty and also pleaded for leniency while promising the court not to indulge in the life of crime again.
