The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has pledged stronger institutional collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force following a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, in Abuja on Thursday.
Welcoming the IGP, Dr. Oyetola congratulated him on his appointment, describing it as well deserved and reflective of his distinguished record of service and professionalism. He expressed confidence in Disu’s capacity to provide effective leadership and further strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
“I warmly congratulate you on your appointment as Inspector-General of Police,” the Minister stated. “Your track record inspires confidence that you will perform excellently in this office and contribute meaningfully to national security.”
In his response, IGP Disu appreciated the Minister’s goodwill and reaffirmed his commitment to collaborative engagement with ministries and agencies whose mandates intersect with national security and economic development. He emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to support critical sectors, particularly the maritime domain, through intelligence-led operations and strategic partnerships.
Deliberations during the meeting centered on deepening operational synergy between the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and the Police Force, with particular focus on enhancing coordinated security operations across Nigeria’s coastal and inland waterways.
Both leaders underscored the growing strategic significance of the maritime sector to national prosperity, noting that improved surveillance, intelligence-sharing, and enforcement are vital to safeguarding waterways and critical maritime assets.
Dr. Oyetola described the visit as timely, stressing that inter-agency collaboration remains central to the Federal Government’s blue economy agenda. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with law enforcement and security institutions to ensure Nigeria’s waters remain safe, secure, and investment-friendly.
“The maritime sector holds enormous promise for economic diversification and job creation,” he noted. “To unlock its full potential, we must guarantee safety and order across our waterways through seamless cooperation among all relevant agencies.”
IGP Disu, in turn, reiterated the Police Force’s readiness to strengthen operational support for maritime security initiatives, including enhanced patrols, intelligence-driven policing, and proactive enforcement against criminal activities on the waterways.
Both parties agreed to sustain regular strategic engagements and coordinated operational frameworks aimed at improving response capacity, surveillance coverage, and information-sharing across agencies operating within Nigeria’s marine and coastal environments.
