The President-General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has been honoured with a prestigious award by Noble Landmark Africa Media Magazine in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic and political development. The award was presented as part of activities commemorating Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The organisers described Comrade Bunu as one of the country’s foremost labour leaders, noting that his achievements within a relatively short period in office have significantly impacted the maritime and labour sectors. According to the management of Noble Landmark Africa Media Magazine, his leadership has brought innovation, clarity of purpose, and renewed direction to the Union and the broader maritime industry.
They further highlighted his longstanding commitment to labour activism, which dates back to his early days as a junior member of the Union. His dedication to practical trade unionism and results-driven advocacy, they said, distinguished him as a deserving recipient of the “Impactful Leadership Award.”
The publishing outfit commended what it described as remarkable strides recorded under his leadership, noting that his tenure has marked a notable phase of progress for both the Union and the maritime industry. Although Comrade Bunu was unavoidably absent at the award presentation, he expressed appreciation to the organisers through the Secretary-General of the Union, Comrade Oniha Erazua, who received the plaque on his behalf. He thanked Noble Landmark Africa Media Magazine for recognising his efforts and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the interests of maritime workers and the industry at large.
The Union’s management also commended the publishers for their commitment to promoting excellence and truth within the maritime sector, urging them to sustain their professional standards.
