Akutah Expresses Confidence in National Single Window to Reform Port Operations

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Akutah Pius, MON, has expressed strong confidence that the proposed National Single Window (NSW) will significantly enhance transparency and operational efficiency across Nigeria’s port system.
Speaking during a meeting convened by the House of Representatives Committee on Shipping Services and Related Matters, Dr. Akutah described the NSW as a transformative reform designed to address persistent inefficiencies caused by the fragmented operations of multiple government agencies working in silos.
According to him, the unified digital platform will harmonise port processes, eliminate duplication, and foster coordinated inter-agency collaboration.
“The National Single Window will streamline procedures into a single integrated system, promoting synergy among agencies and reducing avoidable delays that have long affected port operations,” he said.

Dr. Akutah further noted that the NSC, in its capacity as the nation’s Port Economic Regulator, has already made measurable progress in restoring order and enhancing operational standards within the maritime sector.
He maintained that the introduction of the NSW would consolidate these gains by improving transparency in documentation, cargo clearance, and service delivery across the port value chain.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, Abdussamad Dasuki, underscored the importance of broad stakeholder engagement in the implementation process.
Hon. Dasuki stressed that the National Single Window carries far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s trade competitiveness and overall economic performance, calling for inclusiveness to ensure its success.
The engagement signals growing legislative and institutional backing for the reform, widely regarded as a critical step toward modernising Nigeria’s maritime and trade facilitation architecture.
