Aviation Unions Give NCAT 14 Days to Act, Warn of Total Shutdown

Tension is escalating at the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) following a 14-day ultimatum issued by four major aviation unions over the Management’s failure to conclude the long-delayed review of workers’ Conditions of Service (CoS).
The ultimatum was jointly issued by the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE).
In a joint notice addressed to the Rector of the College, the unions accused NCAT Management of indecision, lack of commitment, and persistent disregard for staff welfare, describing the situation as a serious threat to industrial harmony within the institution.

The unions expressed “grave concern and indignation” over what they termed Management’s continued lack of seriousness in addressing issues affecting workers’ wellbeing, despite the strategic importance of NCAT to Nigeria’s aviation industry.
They noted that organised labour at the College had remained supportive of Management and institutional growth, even in the face of alleged discourteous treatment of union leaders and branch officers. However, the unions lamented that NCAT remains the only agency in the aviation sector yet to conclude a comprehensive review of its Conditions of Service.
According to the notice, Management has continued to pay “lip service” to staff welfare, with repeated delays in finalising the CoS review.

The unions warned that failure to conclude the process within 14 days from the date of the notice would compel them to direct their members to withdraw their services.
“Enough is enough,” the unions declared, stressing that while they remain committed to supporting the College in achieving its mandate, they will no longer tolerate prolonged delays on matters affecting staff welfare.
The notice was jointly signed by the General Secretaries of the four unions—Comrades Olayinka Abioye (NAAPE), Francis Akinjole (ATSSSAN), AbdulRasaq Saidu (ANAP), and Waheed Sikiru (NUATE).
The ultimatum has raised concerns over a potential shutdown of academic and aviation-related activities at NCAT should the standoff remain unresolved beyond the stipulated timeframe.
