The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has clinched the Corporate Leadership Award as the “Most Outstanding Maritime Agency in Efficiency and Transparency in Nigerian Ports” at the Woman of Fortune Hall of Fame Induction and 2nd International Women’s Leadership Summit held in Abuja.
The summit, themed “Fostering Sustainability, Women and Leadership with Technologies,” highlighted the growing intersection between innovation, inclusivity, and maritime development.
Representing the Executive Secretary/CEO, Dr. Pius Akutah MON, the Director of Special Duties, Mr. Moses Abere, led the Council’s delegation and delivered a paper titled “Technology, Women and Shipping Regulation in a Smart Port Regime.”

He reiterated Dr. Akutah’s position that Nigeria stands at a defining point in its maritime evolution, stressing that integrating technology with gender-responsive regulation is essential to building competitive, future-ready ports.
Dr. Akutah emphasized that ongoing digital reforms across the port ecosystem offer critical opportunities to expand women’s participation and bolster Nigeria’s blue economy. He added that a smarter, sustainable maritime future depends on placing women at the centre—not the periphery—of technological and regulatory progress.
The award underscores NSC’s commitment to promoting efficiency, transparency, and inclusive governance within Nigeria’s port operations.
