NNPP Warns Against Recognising Kwankwaso Group’s ‘Illegal’ Congresses

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the general public to disregard the purported congresses announced by the Kwankwasiya Movement led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing the exercise as unconstitutional and unauthorized.
In a statement issued on Monday by the NNPP National Secretary, Comrade Ogini Olaposi Sunday, the party affirmed that all court-ordered congresses had been duly conducted and concluded, rendering any fresh exercise unnecessary and invalid.

The party criticized the Kwankwaso-led faction for notifying INEC of plans to conduct fresh congresses and a convention between November 2025 and January 2026, insisting that the group lacks the legitimacy to act on behalf of the NNPP. According to the statement, the Memorandum of Association entered into with the Kwankwasiya Movement before the 2023 presidential election “expired long ago.”
Reiterating that Kwankwaso—its 2023 presidential candidate—along with members of his faction, remains expelled for alleged anti-party activities, the NNPP expressed shock that “a man of Kwankwaso’s standing would insist on attempting to hijack a party that offered him a platform to contest the 2023 election at no cost.”

The party urged INEC to respect existing court judgments and immediately update its website with the authentic list of NNPP leaders. It cited rulings from both the Abia State High Court and the FCT High Court affirming the expulsion of Kwankwaso and his group.
Describing Kwankwaso’s actions as “disrespectful” and “a blatant disregard for court orders,” the NNPP faulted what it termed INEC’s continued silence despite multiple letters demanding compliance with judicial directives.
“As an electoral umpire, INEC cannot afford to sit on the fence on matters critical to peace and democratic stability,” the statement read, stressing that the commission must not lend legitimacy to groups allegedly attempting to destabilize the political process.

The NNPP urged its members nationwide to ignore the “fake congresses and convention,” pledging to uphold peace while insisting on the rule of law. The party also appealed to INEC to support democratic growth, noting that the success of the nation’s governance depends on strict adherence to legal processes.
