MARAN Appoints Three-Member Caretaker Committee in Major Restructuring

The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has announced a sweeping reorganization of its leadership structure, dissolving the Godfrey Bivbere–led executive council and appointing a three-member Caretaker Committee to oversee the Association’s affairs.
The decision emerged from the Association’s general meeting held on November 20, 2025, at the MARAN Secretariat/International Maritime Press Centre in Apapa, Lagos. The meeting which recorded the attendance of over two-thirds of registered members, including all nine former executives—reached a unanimous resolution to embark on the restructuring to “reposition the Association to meet its aspirations.”
The newly appointed Caretaker Committee comprises:
• Mr. Tunde Ayodele — Chairman
• Mrs. Ruth Sunday Umunna — Treasurer
• Mr. John Obot — General Secretary
In a formal statement, MARAN directed all stakeholders, including ministries, government agencies, corporate organisations and maritime institutions, to conduct all official engagements through the Committee Chairman henceforth.
The Association emphasized that the restructuring should not be misinterpreted, describing it as a strategic move undertaken “for the good of the Association, the maritime industry, and the nation at large.”

MARAN also used the opportunity to invite stakeholders to the public presentation of its forthcoming publication, “50 Drivers of the Nigerian Marine and Blue Economy,” scheduled for December 4 at the Providence Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
As Nigeria’s foremost and oldest maritime press body—registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and comprising more than 40 journalists from print, broadcast, and online media—MARAN reaffirmed its commitment to delivering credible, insightful, and impactful reporting for which it has been known for nearly four decades.
