Wike vs PDP: Turaki Calls Trump as Party War Escalates

The newly elected National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, has appealed to the international community specifically former U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene in what he describes as a growing threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
Turaki made the call while addressing journalists on the escalating turmoil within the party, following the takeover of the PDP national headquarters in Abuja by the police. The development comes amid fierce clashes between factions loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, at the Wadata Plaza.

The PDP chairman alleged that Wike orchestrated the unrest by mobilising armed thugs in collaboration with security operatives to destabilise the party’s secretariat. He warned that the situation reflects a wider assault on democratic institutions in the country.
“It is not only issues concerning Nigerian Christians that are troubling this nation. Our democracy itself is under serious threat,” Turaki said. He vowed that his faction would defend the party’s mandate “even at the cost of our lives.”
The crisis follows the party’s recent national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, where delegates voted to expel Wike, former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose, and several others. The convention also ratified Turaki’s emergence as PDP national chairman.
