Access Bank Restores Customs Payment Services After Three Day Glitch Stalls Cargo Clearance

Access Bank Plc has restored its customs transaction services after a temporary system glitch disrupted operations for clearing agents and importers at Lagos ports earlier in the week.
The disruption, which occurred between November 10 and 12, 2025, stemmed from a connectivity failure between the bank’s network and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) platform. The downtime affected the processing of payments and other transactions via the ACCESS PAY (B’ODOGWU) system, leaving many cargoes trapped and accruing demurrage.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the bank confirmed that the issue was “fully resolved” on November 12, assuring customers that all Customs-related transactions can now be processed seamlessly across Access Bank channels.
The bank apologized for the inconvenience caused, acknowledging concerns raised by licensed customs agents and importers whose operations were delayed. It noted that preventive measures have been implemented to avoid a similar disruption in the future.
“Access Bank appreciates the patience and understanding of its customers during the period of disruption and thanks them for their continued trust and partnership,” the statement said.
The restoration of services is expected to ease the backlog of cargo clearance at Lagos ports and reinforce confidence in the bank’s role in supporting trade facilitation across Nigeria.
