By Amina Ojelabi

The leadership of Guard Time Information (GTI) Human Rights Activists Nationwide has declared its full support for Naval Officer Lieutenant A. M. Yerima, who is currently involved in a land dispute with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike.
In a statement issued after a meeting held on Wednesday, October 12, in Abuja, the Chairman of GTI Human Rights Activists Nationwide, Mr. Bibi Oduku, joined by legal practitioners, human rights advocates, journalists, and stakeholders, reaffirmed their solidarity with Lt. Yerima.

The group maintained that the officer was acting within the lawful boundaries of his duty and had not, at any point, made disrespectful remarks toward the Minister.

The activists commended the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mr. Mohammad Abubakar, for his commitment to protecting the rights of service personnel, as demonstrated in his recent remarks on the issue.

GTI urged the FCT Minister to exercise restraint and handle the matter discreetly to prevent unnecessary public escalation. The group further appealed for direct dialogue between the Minister and the Former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, to achieve an amicable resolution.
In addition, GTI called on members of the public and social media users to avoid sharing inflammatory posts or comments that could inflame tensions, emphasizing that peaceful dialogue and adherence to due process remain the best path to justice.
