The Chairman, House Committee on Healthcare services, Rep. Amos Magaji, has reaffirmed the move by the House of Representatives to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system for enhanced services.
Magaji stated this while declaring open a Public hearing on seven bills aimed at strengthening the country’s healthcare system in Abuja on Wednesday.
“This event marks a significant step toward our collective efforts of strengthening the healthcare system and ensuring that every citizen has access to quality, affordable and equitable healthcare services,” he said.
He reiterated the committee’s commitment to transparency and inclusive policymaking.
According to him, Public hearings such as this are not mere formalities, they are the lifeblood of democratic engagement.
The Lawmaker called for valuable contributions for the review of all 7 proposed
bills, describing public inputs as indispensable.
Magaji called for a synergy to build a healthcare system that reflects the
dignity, resilience and aspirations of the people to achieve the goal of Universal health coverage.
Earlier, the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rep. Abbas Tajudeen said that the bills would improve the healthcare system of the country.
Tajudeen, represented by the Deputy Chief Whip, Rep. Ibrahim Isiaka said that the bills would impact the healthcare sector.
According to him, it is important to establish an ethical framework for organ harvest as well as provide quality care for kidney failure.
Tajudeen said that the bills push for an accountable and ethical healthcare system in Nigeria.
