PDP is sick’: Fayose declares, hints at 3 more governors planning to defect

Former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, has said that three more governors from the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will soon leave the opposition party.
The PDP chieftain made this comment during an interview on Wednesday on Channels Television while reacting to the defection of Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa, from the PDP.
Fayose warned that if the internal crises within the PDP is not resolved, it may soon leave it with just five governors. He also described the party’s presidential and gubernatorial tickets as “ordinary tissue paper” lacking political value.

Let me tell you, there are three more governors that will leave soon,”
“There will be five remaining. The five remaining, one of them will struggle to catch the ticket, and they all know that the ticket is an ordinary tissue paper,” Fayose said in the interview.

The former Ekiti governor also accused some PDP governors of destroying the party by seeking to control its internal structure.
“They are largely killing the party because they want to control it. This is what happened in 2023,” he added.
Fayose rejected the allegations that President Tinubu is using force to draw opposition governors into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, those defecting are motivated by personal ambition rather than external pressure. “President Tinubu should not be blamed for PDP’s problems,” he said.
“The PDP is sick and remains perpetually sick without a cure in view.”
According to him, the PDP’s problem is caused by internal sabotage, adding that the people responsible for this are well known.
“Those who killed the party know themselves,” Fayose added. “I’m still a member of the PDP, but it’s not my duty to fix what I didn’t break.”

The PDP once boasted that it was going to rule Nigeria for 60 years, however, it suffered a big blow at the hands of the APC in 2015 after ruling for 16 years. Since then, it has been battling internal crises often attributed to President Tinubu.
However, the President has denied the allegations, saying he is not responsible for fixing the problems of the PDP.
