NSC Reaffirms Commitment to Leadership Continuity Through Succession Planning Programme

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has reiterated its commitment to leadership continuity and institutional sustainability through its Succession Planning Programme held recently in Lagos.
The initiative, according to the Council, is aimed at sustaining operational excellence, preserving institutional memory, and ensuring seamless leadership transitions within the organization.

Delivering the opening remarks, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the NSC, Dr. Akutah Pius, MON, represented by the Director, Strategic Planning and Research, Mr. Rotimi Anifowose, underscored the importance of succession planning in strengthening the Council’s resilience and future readiness.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the Council’s long-term vision of enhancing leadership capacity to ensure the organization remains robust, forward-looking, and fully equipped to deliver on its mandate as the nation’s port economic regulator.
Dr. Akutah urged participants to take the programme seriously, engage actively, and reflect on their roles in building a lasting legacy of leadership within the Council.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Ahmadu Garta, now Director, Inland Transport Services, commended participants for their enthusiasm, describing it as a demonstration of shared purpose and collective energy. He emphasized four key leadership pillars self-awareness, strategic thinking, skill development, and purposeful action as essential for effective organizational leadership.
In his presentation, Dr. Williams Azuh, a maritime policy analyst, defined effective leadership as one that consistently delivers results, inspires trust, and drives collective achievements.
Participants expressed optimism that the programme would equip them with the knowledge and competencies required to assume higher responsibilities in advancing the Council’s strategic mandate.
