NNPP Chair Declares Kwankwaso, Kwankwasiya Movement Expelled from Party

The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Agbo Major Gilbert, has reaffirmed that former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and his Kwankwasiya group no longer have any role in the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Dr. Agbo made the declaration in a statement on Friday while reacting to Kwankwaso’s recent speech at a gathering of the Kwankwasiya movement, where he suggested that the NNPP remained open to political alliances.
According to Dr. Agbo, the Memorandum of Understanding between the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya movement expired after the 2023 general elections, and Kwankwaso, alongside his loyalists, was expelled for alleged anti-party activities.

He dismissed Thursday’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting convened by Kwankwaso’s faction in Abuja, describing it as “fake” and insisting it would not alter the binding judgments of the Abia and FCT High Courts that recognized the party’s leadership structure.
“Beyond betrayal of trust, Kwankwaso continues to use the NNPP name for transactional negotiations that could mislead unsuspecting Nigerians,” Dr. Agbo stated.

The NNPP chairman further warned that any group or individual entering into political alliances with Kwankwaso under the NNPP banner would be doing so at their own risk.
Dr. Agbo stressed that the party remained committed to internal democracy and equal opportunities for all aspirants, adding that no candidate would again be given the ticket without undergoing proper primaries.

While clarifying that the NNPP is not opposed to alliances with other parties, he maintained that such partnerships must serve national interest and not be driven by personal vendettas.
He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to act decisively by updating the party’s new leadership on its records in line with court-ordered conventions.
