Akutah Urges Stakeholders’ Collaboration to End Rejection of Nigerian Export

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius, MON, has called for stronger stakeholder collaboration to address the persistent rejection of Nigerian exports in international markets.

Dr. Akutah made the call when members of the Export Commodity Committee from the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment paid a courtesy visit to the NSC headquarters in Lagos.

He urged the committee to extend similar visits to other government agencies to foster collective efforts aimed at ensuring that Nigerian exports gain wider global recognition and acceptance.
The NSC boss stressed the urgent need to tackle challenges such as poor quality of produce, inadequate packaging, and other deficiencies that have led to the rejection of Nigerian goods abroad.

Highlighting the Council’s ongoing interventions, Dr. Akutah noted that the NSC has been facilitating the development of Inland Dry Ports (IDPs) across the country to serve as hubs for indigenous exports, bringing shipping services closer to shippers in the hinterlands.

Responding, Mrs. Hajara Usman, Head of the Commodities & Export Desk at the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, commended the Shippers’ Council for its pivotal role in advancing Nigeria’s agro-export sector.

She explained that the Export Commodity Committee was established by the Federal Government to sanitize the country’s export sector and emphasized that the visit was aimed at strengthening synergy with NSC to achieve that mandate.
