A Sharia Court in Kano has sentenced a 35-year-old man, Sabiu Abdullahi, to 50 strokes of the cane for stealing five pieces of roofing sheets.
Abdullahi, a resident of Mariri Quarters in Kano, was found guilty of trespass and theft, offenses that contravene Sections 134 and 287 of the Kano State Penal Code Law.
The prosecution, led by Zahradeen Abubakar, told the court that the theft occurred on July 21 after Abdullahi unlawfully entered the home of Anas Yakubu of Tamburawa Quarters while the complainant was away.
Upon arraignment, the defendant pleaded guilty to the charges.
Delivering judgment, Judge Malam Umar Lawal ordered that Abdullahi be flogged 50 times in accordance with the provisions of the law.
